What inspired you to write this book?
It all started with my sister from another mister, Irina, said to me; “why don’t you write a sort of Fifty Shades of Grey but with gay characters?”
The idea bounced around in head for a while and around Christmastime 2017 I sat in my car and started thinking what a gay Mr Grey would be called. Mr Pink, naturally. I basically sat down to write. I just had a thin idea that I realized I needed to flesh out if there ever was going to be a book. I put love and revenge into the mix and suddenly I had a beginning, a middle and an end.
The story is set in Los Angeles, London and Stockholm. Why did you choose those as the backdrop for the story?
Simply because they are cities that I know, and if you are going to write about something you need to know your setting. Stockholm is an usually green little capital way up north in Scandinavia which I suppose will be exotic for the international readers. I love Los Angeles, so I wanted part of the story to unfold there. London is home and naturally the city of the three that I know the best.
Do you like your characters? They do things that are not particularly nice.
I would say yes and no. I wrote Mr Pink as a sociopath who is ruthless in his pursuit in reaching his goals. He can be hard to like sometimes but at the end of the story you at least get some sort of explanation why he is like he is. I hope I have portrayed Mr Pink and my other characters as multi-facetted. No human is purely evil or good. We all consist of light and darkness and it is up to each and every one of us to choose which side should prevail.
Do you write fast?
Yes, I do! I think it has to do with that I work as a freelance writer, copywriter and translator. I am used to tight deadlines and that I need to get a mass of text written during a short period of time.
Why do you write?
Because it gives me pleasure. I have always written and made up stories since I was a child. As an adult I realized that that I saw as a game could be a career. School was no picknick in the park and I was bullied a lot so I escaped into a world of fantasy. I escaped into stories and books. They became my safe haven and I read a lot today too but more for sheer pleasure than escape.
What has been your influences?
When it comes to authors, I looked to L.S. Hilton and Bret Easton Ellis. I have also taken inspiration from the film Basic Instinct because I think the character, Catherine Tramell, is fascinating. The cliffhangers and drama are to do with watching TV-dramas as Dynasty, Falcon Crest and Dallas. I have also taken inspiration from people I know, things I have been told and such. I threw it all in a pot and started cooking so to speak.
